Social Media is big and growing. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Stumble Upon, Ping, etc. have become an integral part of how a company communicates with its customers. Marketing is moving from a push model (we push information to you), to a relationship model (we can have an instant conversation and impact on a brand). What I’d like to emphasize to you is Social Media is just one communications channel to reach your customer, albeit it is becoming a more important one.
Marketing that has the most impact looks at the whole brand and an integrative approach to communications. I have had many conversations with people who want to jump on the Social Media bandwagon because its FREE. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s not free. You will either spend your time doing it yourself, or you can spend some money and have someone, preferrably a marketing expert that understands marketing, the technology, how to write content and the culture, do it for you. That would be me.
My seminar is an introduction to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, the top Social Media sites on the Web. I will help you navigate each platform and talk about how to converse to market your business. Check out the Events Page for more details or call me at (805) 215-8545 with any questions or to register.

I am so glad you are here. This is a place for interaction, conversation, networking and to build relationships. I hope that what I post and the comments that ensue, even if very little in the beginning, will be educational, helpful, constructive and fun! I am looking forward to learning from you.
So, why did I switch my Website over to the WordPress platform? Because it offers so much more functionality to cross communicate, engage each other and interact. Marketing is a two-way conversation between a business and customers now, a great way to build relationships, and this platform will let me have that conversation with you. It has a content management system that is easy to learn and use, plus the design templates, while a little bit constrictive, look attractive and professional. And, if I want more functionality, I can move this Blog into a Website platform and still use WordPress management system. I can even update it from my iPhone. One step at a time. Ask me how I can do this for you.
Am I worried about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? My current Highway 101 Communications Website does well in Google and other engines. But, in a word, no. The WordPress platform attracts the Search Engines and I am confident in my knowledge of how to optimize this site for Search that I will be found readily. I do it for my clients, I should do it for myself, right? Right!
The site is also easy to navigate. There is a horizontal navigation bar at the top of the page, as well as page navigation on the right sidebar. You will see in the right-hand column, the Hwy 101 Mission Statement, a way to subscribe to this Blog, all of the pages on this site (another way to navigate), links, the Hwy 101 Twitter feed and how to contact me. I want to call special attention to the Portfolio link. That is the page where you can find some of Hwy 101’s latest work. The News page will be reserved for the latest Hwy 101 news, as well as news of our clients. The Events page will keep you in touch with business events in the county (great for networking) and Hwy 101 events. I give Social Media seminars from time-to-time, so check in often.
The Home Page will be where I post updates on work, interesting articles from the Web and some of my own musings and commentary about the world of marketing. I hope you will find this site a great resource you can come to again and again. I hope you will also participate and make comments or ask questions.
So, thanks for the visit and please come back often. If you have any comments or suggestions, fill out a comment or just email me directly at heather@highway101communications.com.
